SA Police Historical Society Open Day

International Museums Day

On Sunday the 20th of May, 2007, we will host an open day at the Thebarton Police Barracks as part of History Week.  Three galleries of the museum will be open, and our historic vehicles will be on display in the parade ground.  Various forms of interest and entertainment will include, police rangers band, mounted operations unit, dog squad demonstrations. We will be hoping for plenty of volunteers to assist us to make this a successful open day so if you are interested, please contact the society with your details.

•  Parking for the public will be on Gaol Road, Deviation Road and an off street area off Gaol Road adjacent the Green Ménage.
•     Access to the Barracks will be controlled with the general public paying an entry fee at the Gaol Road entrance.
•     Members of the Police Historical Society will be present and will display a clear identification badge. Others will wear period uniforms.
•     Members of the Police Rangers will be present and in uniform.
•     Three galleries of the Museum will be open.
•     The Historical Society Meeting room will provide morning tea etc. and will also have a 30 minute video show commencing each hour from 1100 hours.
•     Blue Light will be running a barbecue.
•     Memorabilia will be available from the old canteen adjacent the meeting room.
•     The Dog Operations Unit will have one dog in the area at various times convenient to the handler.
•     The Mounted Operations Unit proposes to have two fully outfitted riders and horses on the Parade Grounds for short periods if time permits during the morning and afternoon.
•     A display of vintage police transport vehicles will be on the southern half of the Parade Ground.
